| 英文摘要 | Observations of binary stars are posing strong constraints on binary evolution theory. The main problems, as seen from the studies of binary population synthesis, are the criterion for dynamically unstable mass transfer, angular momentum loss during stable Roche lobe overflow, and common envelope evolution. Solving the problems helps us to understand the formation of various binary related objects, and improve the model of binary population synthesis greatly. A good model of binary population synthesis can contribute very much to (or even rewrite the story of) the understanding of the UV upturn in giant elliptical galaxies, while the UV upturn is used to derive ages which are important in cosmological models. The binary population synthesis model also helps us to understand models of type Ia supernovae, which are the best distance indicator for cosmology at the present time. |
