AN ECLIPSING BLUE STRAGGLER IN THE GLOBULAR CLUSTER omega CENTAURI

英文摘要omega Centauri is the largest globular cluster in the Milky Way and hence contains the largest number of variable stars within a single cluster. The results of photometric solutions are presented for the EA-type binary V239 in this cluster. According to our analysis, V239 is a typical Algol-type binary. We obtain M = 1.20 +/- 0.10 M-circle dot, R = 1.21 +/- 0.03 R-circle dot, and L = 13.68 +/- 0.63 L-circle dot for the primary component. The secondary component has M = 0.07 +/- 0.02 M-circle dot, R = 0.90 +/- 0.03 R-circle dot, and L = 2.17 +/- 0.14 L-circle dot. The binary system is located in the blue straggler region on the color-magnitude diagram of omega Centauri and the mass of the primary component exceeds the mass of a turnoff star. Therefore, we think that V239 is a blue straggler and that V239 was formed by mass transfer from the present secondary component to the present primary.
