英文摘要 | Birefringent filters have many merits, for example, extremely narrow bandwidth (to 0.1 nm), wide field of view, tunable, and arbitrarily specified transmittances they are widely used for optical filters. In this dissertation, some new theoretical studies and application of birefringent filters are presented. (1) The characteristics of light propagating near the axis of birefringent filter are studied. A generalized formulation to describe the nearly-off-axis transmissivity of Sole birefringent filter is derived. On this basis, the polarization conoscopic figures of Sole filters with different stages of birefringent plates are simulated. Furthermore, the variation of spectral transmission due to the incline incidence is analyzed, and the view-field transmissivity and the spectral transmissivity averaged with respect to the spread of incident light are given. Primary experiments for verifications are demonstrated, too. (2) A new method is proposed to design birefringent filters with arbitrarily specified transmittance, which could realized the complicated transmittance by less birefringent plates with simple calculation than those using the inversely-deduce method. Therefore, polarization-independent birefringent filters whose transmittance is arbitrarily specified can be founded. These filters can be used for, for example, frequency selective hybrids, interleavers, compensators, gain equalizers, delay networks and so on. As a demonstration, a new type of EDFA gain equalizer is designed. A three-stage birefringent filter can give a flat gain spectrum with <0.15dB variation in the wavelength range 1550nm-1562nm. |
