英文摘要uantitative understanding of the relationship between scattering mechanisms within vegetation canopies and the microwave brightness temperature is desirable for soil moisture retrievals over vegetated landscapes. In this study, a multi-order radiative transfer model is developed to more accurately account for vegetation canopy scattering by modifying the basic t-? model. The multi-order solution is used to investigate this relationship and to perform a physical analysis of the scattered and emitted radiation from vegetation canopies. The model is tested against Multi-frequency Microwave Radiometer brightness temperature measurements acquired over deciduous soybean and cotton by a truck-mounted microwave instrument system called TMMR in 2009. The model predictions are in good agreement with the data, and they give quantitative understanding for the influence of multi-order scattering within the canopy on the brightness temperature. The results show that the scattering term is significant for the vegetation canopies and modifications are necessary to the tau-omega model when applied to dense vegetation.
