This study offers an exclusive class of cross linked polymeric ionic liquid material poly(divinylbenzene-co-dication imidazole ionic liquids) (P(DVB-DIIL)), as a host immobilization of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs). The resulting P(DVB-DIIL)-Pd catalysts were fully characterized using some different techniques such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The immobilized palladium catalyst showed high activity for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes with H2 under mild conditions, affording the corresponding products in good to excellent yields. Moreover, the catalyst could be recovered easily and reused 10 times without significant loss of reactivity. The existence of NHC ligands in cross-linked polymeric ionic liquid material may be responsible for the formation of active and stable supported Pd NPs catalyst.
