Periodical service pool refreshing mechanism with optimal refreshing time interval calculation

英文摘要 | As availability of web service has become a great concern in SOA, service pool is being taken as a common approach to improve the availability. To detect and recover failures of services in the pool, monitoring and refreshing mechanism is often set up on the pool. While refreshing mechanism could improve the availability to an extent, it may cost additional resources and may interrupt the normal execution and thus reduce the availability of the service pool. To achieve the balance between the monitoring, refreshing process and the normal execution process, this paper proposes a periodically refreshing mechanism to check the status of services once in a while and to replace unavailable services in advance. An availability model is presented for the whole service pool with redundant services and our refreshing mechanism. In this model, both the positive and negative impact of the refreshing process on the availability of service pool is taken into consideration and the refreshing time interval is chosen aiming at either maximizing the availability of service pool or achieving balance between availability and resources. Experiment data shows that this kind of mechanism could guarantee the availability of service pool through choosing of proper refreshing time interval in different scenarios. 1553-9105/Copyright © 2014 Binary Information Press. |
