Thermal and flow behavior of melt pool during selective laser melting of AlSi10Mg powder in point exposure laser scan pattern

英文摘要A three-dimensional model was developed for studying heat transfer and fluid flow of molten pool during selective laser melting (SLM) of AlSi10Mg powder in point exposure laser scan pattern. The effects of Marangoni convention and exposure time on temperature field, velocity field, molten pool dimensions and liquid lifetime have been investigated. The results showed that the shape of molten pool in point exposure laser scan pattern was circle while it was comet-shape in continuous exposure. Moreover, considering Marangoni effect with negative surface tension gradient, the maximum temperature of molten pool decreased, as well as the molten pool turned into wide and shallow. In addition, the variation of molten pool dimensions and liquid lifetime was not obvious with different exposure time. SLM of AlSi10Mg powder experiment was also carried out to demonstrate of the reliability of the physical model and simulation results. The experimental results were in good agreement with the results predicted by simulation. Copyright © 2016 MS&T16®.
