Geology, petrology and geochemistry of the mafic-ultramafic rocks in the Fujian coastal region, southeastern China, and their genesis

| 英文摘要 | The mafic-ultramafic rocks, situated in the Fujian coastal region, southeastern China, can be classified into four types by their geology, petrology and geochemistry: metamorphic peridotite, ultramafic cumulate complexes, cumulate gabbros and massive gabbros, which are allochthonous and display thrust sheets. Their wall rocks are volcaniclastic and greenschist to amphibolite facies metamorphic rocks. The ultramafic rocks are rich in Mg, Ni, Co, Cr and poor in Al, Ca, suggesting that they are mantle peridotite after substantial partial melting and similar to the lower part of an ophiolite. The cumulate and massive gabbros are rich in Al, Ca, Fe, LREE and poor in Si, Na. The trace elements and REE distribution patterns of these gabbros show that they were same-source evolution and all underwent magmatic fractional crystallization in high fO(2) setting. The mafic-ultramafic rocks may be of island are origin. The tectonic emplacement age of these rocks is in the time range of 95-109 Ma, concurrently with a reported Cretaceous collision (100-120 Ma) in the Fujian coastal region. However, the recognition of the tectonic significance of these rocks still needs further research. |
