Crustal structure and velocity distribution from deep seismic sounding along the profile of Lianxian-Boluo-Gangkou in South China

英文摘要The profile is located in South China, 400km long, running from Lianxian to Gangkou. There are 200 recording stations being placed along the profile to record the seismic signal from explosive sources. Six seismic time sections are plotted by about 700 seismic recording channels, from which two refraction phases (P-g and P-n) and five reflection phases (P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4 and P-m) are traced. The P-g travels through the shallow earth's crust and P-n is refracted from the top of uppermantle. P-1, P-2, P-3, and P-4 are caused by various interfaces in the crust respectively and P-m comes from Moho discontinuity. By analyzing, some primary results are obtained. The shallow crustal structure and velocity distribution having a close relationship with the faults are imaged by travel time of P-g wave phase. The crustal average velocity of P-m wave is 6.25 km/s, which calculated by P-m phase with stronger energy. The thickness of the crust become thin gradually from northwest to southeast part, but the variation of thickness is slightly. The depth of Moho is 32-34 km from Qingyuan to Lianxian, about 30 lan at the region of Boluo to Huidong, and 29.5 km between Huidong and Gangkou. The P-n phase can be traced beyond 140 km to 200 km from the section with longer recording distance. The velocity of P-n is about 8.06 km/s. A 2D model with five-layered structure was obtained and discussed in this paper integrating the model with data of geological history, earthquake, geothermal survey and mineral resources.
