Present-day geothermal field of the Jiaoshiba shale gas area in southeast of the Sichuan basin, SW China

英文摘要 | The Sichuan basin is an important oil and gas bearing basin in China. There have been several reports on the present-day geothermal distribution of the Sichuan Basin in general. However, little effort has been made to characterize the geothermal field in details for the Jiaoshiba Shale Gas Area in the Southeastern Sichuan Basin where breakthrough of shale gas exploration has recently been made. Combining existing data with 3 new borehole temperature profiles and thermal conductivity measurements of 118 rock samples, this paper presents a heat flow contour map of this area. It turns out that the Jiaoshiba Shale Gas Area has a relatively high geothermal gradient value of 24 similar to 34 degrees C/km and heat flow Value of similar to 60-70 mW center dot m(-2) comparable to the heat flow of the uplifted central district of the Sichuan Basin. The main cause of this phenomenon is the lateral heat transfer towards the uplifted areas due to the difference of the rock thermal conductivities. Another reason is the thermo-tectonic activities of the Qiyue Mountain Fault at the east boundary of the Sichuan Basin during the Yanshan and Himalayan Epochs. The high geothermal anomalies in the Jiaoshiba Shale Area is beneficial to the recovery ratio of shale gas because high temperature can promote desorption rate. |
