The formation of curve shape quartz-muscovite layers in Koktokay pegmatite intrusions, Altay, and its implications

英文摘要 | Quartz-muscovite layers are located near the edges of pegmatite intrusions and these layers are usually parallel to the contact margins. However, curve quartz-muscovite layers are found in the Koktokay ore deposit, Altay, Xinjiang. The mechanism of the curve shape is unknown. The curve quartz-muscovite layers have uniform shape and they are usually concentrated near the shallow dipping hanging walls of the Koktokay pegmatite intrusions. The quartz-muscovite layers near the side walls have no such curve shape. Such features are compatible to the textures formed by fluid buoyancy. According to the textures and previous studies of fluid inclusions, the alternation between the quartz-albite layers and quartz-muscovite layers is due to the changing volume of volatile in magma. The changing volume of volatile in magma not only caused the formation of volatile rich magma, but also caused the floating of the magma. The surface tension then keeps the rising magma as a curve margin. The existence of a large amount of curve quartzmuscovite means a large scale pegmatite intrusion and a benefit structural environment for volatile preservation. Such information is important for the prospecting of rare metals. |
