Improved full-color emission and switched luminescence in single Ca-3(PO4)(2): Dy3+, Eu3+ phosphors for white LEDs

英文摘要Rare-earth activated Ca-3(PO4)(2): Dy3+, Eu3+ single white phosphors were successfully prepared by the high-temperature solid-state reaction, and their crystal structure, morphology, photoluminescence properties and energy transfer mechanism were systematically investigated. All phosphors had the pure rhombohedral phase and exhibited good crystallinity with the uniform size of 2-5 mu m Dy3+ doped (Ca1-xDyx)(3)(PO4)(2) phosphor emitted 481 nm blue and 572 nm yellow light under 348 nm excitation. The highest emission was observed at x = 0.02 but with lower color rendering index due to lack of red emission. Herein, Eu3+ ions were co-doped to improve the full-color emission properties. A novel switching luminescence behavior between Dy3+ (F-4(9/2) level) and Eu3+ (D-5(1) level) appeared in (Ca0.98yDy0.02Euy)(3)(PO4)(2) phosphors. Energy captured by Dy3+ ions was transferred to Eu3+ ions and greatly enhanced its red emission. When the concentration of Eu3+ ions was same with Dy3+ ions (y = 0.02), the intensities of all emission peaks were relatively higher, and showed the improved full-color emission at 482 nm (blue), 573 nm (yellow), 590 nm (orange) and 612 nm (red). Then, the concentrations of Dy3+ and Eu3+ ions in (Ca1-2zDyzEuz)(3)(PO4)(2) phosphors were together optimized to get the highest luminescence at their same co-doping concentrations. Finally, the highest emission with best white-full-color emission was obtained at z = 0.04. Full-color emission of Ca-3(PO4)(2): Dy3+, Eu3+ phosphor was induced by a switched luminescence and this phosphor was expected to be a potential candidate as a single-host phosphor for white LEDs.
