Effect of Surface Topography on Wettability of ZnO Thin Films Deposited by Hydrothermal Method

英文摘要A simple hydrothermal method is adopted to fabricate ZnO thin films on Si substrates. Surface topography of the samples evolves from thin nanosheets to hexagonal nanorods with increasing the growth time. The wetting behavior of all the samples can be reversibly switched from hydrophobicity to hydrophilicity, through alternation of UV illumination and dark storage. The nanorods with less proportion of polar planes exhibits a higher light-induced contact angle reduction rate than thin nanosheets with larger proportion of polar planes. The nonpolar planes of the ZnO crystal contain oxygen ions, which are considered to be energetically reactive sites. The results indicate that the reversible switching between hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity is related to the synergy of the transition of wetting model, surface crystal structure, surface roughness and oxygen vacancies.
