英文摘要 | The use of implantable medical devices has continued to rise as a result of our prolonged life spans; however, these devices, in relation to their extended stay in vivo, are challenged by biomaterial-associated infections (BAIs) (Busscher et al. 2012; Gristina 1987). The number of dental implants used in the United States can be 2 million per year, and more than 5% of which may fail because of infections (Ehrlich et al. 2005). Although the infection rate of patients involved in fixation of closed fractures is generally lower (1%-2%), the incidence for fixation of open fractures may exceed 30% (Trampuz and Zimmerli 2006). BAIs 302cause approximately 55,000 deaths annually in the United States alone, with similar morbidities worldwide (Grainger et al. 2013). The average revision costs were many times more than that of a primary insertion (van Oosten et al. 2013). © 2017 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. |
