A Study of Cause of Abrupt Ground Surface Collapse under Special Geological Conditions

| 英文摘要 | The cause of abrupt ground surface collapse occurring in the deep excavation of Chengchao iron mine surrounded by a special geological mass is studied in this present paper. The results have shown that the special geological environment governs the process and type of the collapse, which is the major cause of the abrupt collapse. The hard gypsum body as the impermeable layer in the overburden guarantees the possibility of the existence of a great number of water bodies in the upper aquifer layers during underground excavation activities. The hard gypsum body is liable to corrosion and softening under the hydrodynamic condition, as a result, the original low strength of the hard gypsum becomes lower. This property and the occurrence state of gypsum bodies create the condition for the abrupt collapse of ground surface. The fast discharge of karst water in marble rocks over the hard gypsum body results in sudden increasing high negative pressure in the interior, which is the direct cause of the abrupt ground surface collapse. The hydrodynamic pressure caused by underground water flowing and the hydrostatic pressure caused by assemblage of underground water is the force driving the collapse. |
