英文摘要 | The redundancy of bridge piers with different types of pile foundations under static and dynamic lateral loads is investigated with a non-linear finite element program. The redundancies of two-column and four-column piers representing the behavior of typical multi-column piers are calculated. The effects of the load characteristics, column height, number of columns and piles on the redundancy of the structure are studied. The results indicate that the bridge piers exhibit higher redundancy when they suffer from static lateral loads than that under with dynamic loads. For the same pier type, the redundancy varies mildly for varying column length. The effect of the number of the piles on the redundancy is very limited in the case of the lateral load on the column regardless of the load characteristics. The bridge piers with more columns show obviously higher redundancy than that with fewer columns. The bridge pier exhibits higher redundancy when the rise time of the impact load is larger, which is gradually approaching the value of the pier under static load. The results and analysis approach can be used for new designs as well as for the safety assessment of existing structures. |
