英文摘要Water is one of the most important factors that influence the mechanical properties of rock, especially the soft rock. With the purpose of understanding the variation of physical and mechanical characters of soft sandstone induced by water, uniaxial compression and tension tests have been carried out for dry and saturated sandstone after different cyclic drying-wetting. Research results show that, this soft sandstone presents an obviously deterioration of mechanical properties when sandstone samples are suffered to progressive wetting-drying, with increase of cycle number, uniaxial compressive and tensile strength of sandstone decreased gradually, whether the samples were dry or saturated. But its variation scope became smaller gradually with the cycle number. The damage degree of cyclic drying-wetting on the rock tensile strength is greater than the long-term immersion. Aiming at investigating the damage characteristics and its mechanism of interaction between water and sandstone, the pictures of SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) of rock sample have been studied. Their SEM pictures show that the micromor-phologies and microstructures of samples have changed with some differences.
