Application of GPR for forecasting geological disasters in tunnels

英文摘要 | Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a relatively new electromagnetic advanced geological forecast technique that is gaining widespread use for mapping shallow subsurface geological structures and locating Underground objects. GPR is a quick, continuous and non-destructive geophysical prospecting method. GPR data, based on accuracy of exploration and interpretation, excellence of resolution and capacity of mapping 3-D, can supply instructive purposes for design and construction of tunnels. During tunnel construction, unfavorable geological conditions in front of working face are difficultly clarified, due to limitation of geological survey and complexity of surrounding rock in tunnels. While digging tunnels, unfavorable geological structures such as faults, fracturing zones, weak interbedded layers and karst caves, often give rise to geological disasters like collapse and flood in some districts, and result in serious damages, delays, and thus economic losses. Accordingly, advanced geological forecast is far from being insignificant in process of excavation. In this work, the GPR data is conducted at Yeshanguan tunnel of Yi(YiChang)Wan(WanZhou)railroad. As a result, we can draw the conclusion by analysis of typical GPR profiles: application of GPR is. relatively accurate and feasible for forecasting unfavorable geological structures in front of working face, and is important to safety of tunnel construction. |
