In-situ fabrication of sic-tic-ti3sic2 composites by spark plasma sintering

英文摘要Using ti, si, c and a small quantity of al as starting materials, sic-tic-ti3sic2 composites without tic were fabricated sintered at 1350 degrees c by spark plasma sintering (sps). the sic volume content of the composite was 50%, its open porosity was 2.72%, vickers hardness was about 10.09 gpa, and fracture toughness 5.66 mpa center dot m(1/2). but when the sintering temperature was increased to 1450 degrees c, xrd results showed that tic appeared, which indicated that ti3sic2 decomposed. the open porosity was only 0.64%, the vickers hardness increased to 18.07 gpa, and fracture toughness was 6.30 mpa center dot m(1/2). the experimental results indicate that only by increasing the sintering temperature from 1350 to 1450 degrees c, ti3sic2 decomposes partly to tic, which could increase the general properties of the composites.
