英文摘要Green composites of short waste silk fibers/wheat protein isolate were prepared with different fiber loadings. Wheat protein isolate was cross linked with glutaraldehyde in the presence of glycerol plasticizer. Surface of the waste silk fibers was modified with alkali treatment. The effect of fiber loading on the tensile properties of the composite was studied. The tensile strength and modulus of the composites increased with fiber content whereas the % elongation at break decreased. The interface between the fibers and the matrix was found to be narrow. The improvement in tensile properties of the composites was attributed to the high tenacity and surface modification of the fibers. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
