英文摘要Here the influence of wall frictions on the hopper flows was carefully studied. Up to 500,000 spheres discharged from two-dimensional and three-dimensional hoppers were simulated by using discrete element method. Unlike the previous understanding, it was found that besides the particle-particle frictions, the effect of wall frictions to the flow rates is obvious when the initial packing height is large enough and this phenomenon can be related to the classical Janssen effect. Other physical quantities, such as the radical distribution function, distribution of force chain length and volume fractions are also investigated with different wall frictions. It was shown that wall frictions have an influence on force chain length and volume fractions, but not on the radical distribution function. This study provides a reference for device designs in the granular industry.
