X-ray emission from highly charged heavy ions studied at storage rings

英文摘要 | Radiative electron capture at low projectile energies is studied via angular differential cross sections for collisions of bare uranium with low-Z target atoms. Our results show that for high-Z systems relativistic effects such as spin-flip transitions show up in an unambiguous fashion which still persist even in the low-energy domain. Moreover, following REC into the 2p(3,2) state a strong alignment of this level was observed by measuring the angular distribution of the Lyalpha(1) transition in H-like uranium. Here, an interference between the leading El decay channel and the much weaker M2 multipole transition gives rise to a remarkable modified angular distribution of the emitted photons. For the particular case of hydrogen-like uranium the former variance of the experimental data with theoretical findings is removed when this E1/M2 multipole mixing is taken into account. Finally, with respect to atomic structure studies, a very recent experiment will be discussed aiming on a precise determination of the electron-electron QED contribution to the groundstate ionization potential in He-like uranium. |
