Response of 9Cr steel and 20Cr Fe-base ODS alloy to high-energy Ne-ion irradiation at elevated temperatures

英文摘要 | Effects of energetic particle irradiation on ferritic/martensitic steels and Fe-base ODS alloys are of important concern for the use of materials as structural components in advanced nuclear power systems. In the present work an irradiation experiment of some ferritic/martenstic and ODS steels with high-energy Ne ions was carried out to study the effects of atomic displacement damage and nuclear transmutation gases like helium on the microstructures. Specimens of Grade 92 steel (a 9%Cr ferritic/martenstic steel) and MA956 (a Fe-base ODS alloy) were subjected to the irradiation of 20Ne ions (with 122MeV) to successively increasing damage levels of 1, 5 and 10 dpa at the damage peak at 440 and 570°C respectively. Cross-section microstructures were investigated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). MA956 alloy showed relatively higher resistance to Ne ion irradiation in all the irradiation conditions. The suppression of growth of voids especially at grain-boundaries in MA956 is ascribed to the enhanced recombination of point defects and the trapping of Ne at the interfaces of yttrium oxides as well as the low-angle coherent structure of the grain-boundaries in this material. |
