The effects of solidification parameters on cast macro/microstructures of binary gamma-TiAl alloys

中文摘要 | The control of solidification conditions is very critical for ensuring homogeneity in alloy chemistry and microstructure of gamma-TiAl based alloys, especially in cast condition. In the present investigation, different solidification conditions were simulated in an arc furnace to study their influence on the macro/micro-structures of binary alloys Ti43Al, Ti47Al and Ti51Al (at.%). Significant variation in cast macro/microstructure was observed: on the vertical sections of the ingots, the macrostructure exhibits 3-6 layers representing different solidification conditions and the thickness and microstructures of the layers vary widely. The changes in macro/microstructure can be attributed to the difference in solidification rate and associated elemental segregation under these conditions. Some new substructures were also observed in Ti47Al solidified in this way. |
