Dynamic mechanical properties of castor oil-based polyurethane/epoxy graft interpenetrating polymer network composites

中文摘要A series of graft interpenetrating polymernetworks (IPNs) were prepared from epoxy (EP) andcastor oil-based polyurethane (PU). The dynamic me-chanical properties, as well as the tensile and impactstrength, of the IPNs were studied systematically. Resultsrevealed that PU/EP IPNs showed improved dampingproperties compared with that of EP matrix. In addition,the PU content and testing frequencies had much influ-ence on the damping properties of the IPNs. The IPNcomposites showed better damping properties withhigher PU content or under higher testing frequencies. Mechanical analysis showed that the tensile strength ofIPN composites was higher than that of pure EP. How-ever, higher PU content (beyond 5 wt %) impaired theimpact strength of the IPNs. It is expected that PU/EPIPNs may be potentially used as structural damping materials.
