英文摘要PURPOSE:To eliminate unerased recording by increasing the erasure light beam spot diameter in a track guide groove direction of recording information more than the spot diameter of recording/reproduction light beam on a phase modification rewritable optical recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An active layer 44 wide and thin in the opening of an optical output end face 41 and 1 >= active layers 44 narrow and thin are arranged in parallel via an insulation groove 49 on one and same semiconductor base 42, and the optical output side end face composed of the thin and wide active layer 44 in the opening of the optical output end face 41 and the narrow and thin active layer 44 is formed integrally so as to have a step difference in the longitudinal direction of the resonator. A common electrode 48 is provided on the rear face of the semiconductor base 42 and a power injection electrode 47 is provided on the upper face of each active layer 44 of the opposite side. Thus, the erasure light beam spot diameter in the direction of information recording track guide slot is increased more than the recording and reproducing light beam spot diameter. Thus, unerased recording information does not take place on the mode transition rewritable optical recording medium.
