英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain the small-sized optical coupling part which is easily aligned by putting the active layers of a light emitting and a receiving element closely opposite each other. CONSTITUTION:The end surface incidence type light receiving element 11 has the beltlike active layer 11a formed on one surface of a crystal substrate to the overall length of the substrate and the light emitting element 12 has the active layer 12a formed on one surface of the crystal substrate to the same size corresponding to the active layer 11a of the light emitting element 11 and the light receiving element 1 and light emitting element 12 are so arranged that the active layers 11a and 12a of the light receiving element 11 and light emitting element 12 face each other at an interval (d) of about 10 mum in parallel and the end surface where the active layer 11a of the light receiving element 11 and the end surface 12b where the section of the active layer 12a of the light emitting element 12 is exposed are on the same plane. Namely, end surfaces of grated index fibers are put closely opposite each other in parallel on the surfaces formed of the light reception area 11c and light emission area 12c so that the optical fiber axes of the grated index fibers meet each other almost at the mid-point between the light reception area 11c and light emission area 12c. Consequently, the optical coupling part which is easily aligned is obtained.
