A single or multiple transverse mode optical semiconductor amplifier has an input coupled to a second end of the optical fiber. The light source may be fabricated from discrete components or alternatively it may be fabricated as a monolithically integrated device, in which case the optical fiber is replaced by an integrated optical waveguide. |
