英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain the inexpensive optical circuit element reducing the dispersion of product quality by stereoscopically splitting one part of a beam propagated to an optical waveguide formed on a base plate, guiding it close to the surface and coupling it with the surface of a photodetector. CONSTITUTION:One part of the beam propagated to an optical waveguide 3 formed on a base plate 1 is stereoscopically splitted, guide close to the surface and coupled with the surface of a photodetector 5a. Therefore, the positions of mounting a semiconductor laser element 4 and the photodetector 5a can be shifted, and the product can be produced only by totally mounting respective array-shaped chips on a big base plate, such as a wafer or the like, forming a lot of unit optical waveguide elements and cutting the base plate later. Thus, the dispersion of the product quality is reduced, mass-productivity is improved, working time is shortened, and the price can be lowered.
