Captures of copper(II)-2,2'-bpy complexes in conformation-fixed homometallic anionic dimers and heterometallic clusters

| 中文摘要 | Reactions of p-sulfonatothiacalix [4]arene (Na(4)H(4)TCAS), Cu(NO3)(2)center dot 3H(2)O, and 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bpy) with/without silver(I) ions generated a self-complementary homometallic anionic dimer [Cu(2,2'-bpy)(3)][Cu-3(HTCAS)(2,2'-bpy)(4)](2)center dot 14H(2)O center dot CH3OH (1) and a heterometallic cluster {Ag3Cu5[H-3(TCAS)(2)](2,2'-bpy)(8)(H2O)}center dot 31H(2)O (2). In these two complexes the cone-like conformation of p-sulfonatothiacalix [4]arene is fixed by the metal centers through coordination with the phenolic groups and thioether bridges at the lower rim of p-sulfonatothiacalix [4]arene. Interestingly, these two complexes display completely different structural motifs: head-to-head supramolecular dimers and tail-to-tail ditopic cups, while both 1 and 2 show several different types of capture of Cu-2,2'-bpy complexes. A variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility study of 1 indicates that there are weak ferromagnetic interactions between Cu(II) ions through the phenolic group bridge and very weak intermolecular antiferromagnetic interactions. |
