英文摘要PURPOSE:To vary the resonance wavelength greatly and to use ROR as the resonator and narrow down the spectral line width by providing a reflection type filter in the resonator. CONSTITUTION:There are reflecting mirror 21 and 22 which reflect any incident light and the resonator is equipped with a mode converter 24 which converts the propagation modes of incident light to the reflector 22 and its reflected light between a TE mode and a TM mode and a polarizer 25 attenuating light which is not mode-converted between the converter 24 and reflecting mirror 22. The reflection type filter reflects light in a band centering on specific wavelength lambda0 set in the filter. At this time, the phase of propagated light in an optical waveguide 2 is adjusted by applying a voltage to an electrode 23 and then the reflecting mirrors 21 and 22 can be resonated with wavelength in the reflection band, specially, center wavelength lambda0. Further, the center wavelength lambda0 of reflection by the reflection type filter is varied to vary the resonance wavelength of the ROR correspondingly.
