英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain the low-noise optical amplifying device whose gain has no polarization plane dependency and which has high efficiency of coupling with a transmission line by composing an exciting light source for an optical fiber optical amplifier of a semiconductor laser which generates exciting light and a semiconductor laser optical amplifier which amplifies the exciting light. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber amplifier 100 is used as an optical amplifier main body and the exciting light source for an optical fiber 1 consists of the semiconductor laser 2 which generates the exciting light and the semiconductor laser(LD) amplifier 3 which amplifies the exciting light. Therefore, superior characteristics of the optical fiber amplifier appear in the output characteristics of signal light, so the polarization dependency of the signal gain is eliminated and the loss of coupling between a noise and a transmission line is reducible. Consequently, the performance required for the light source decreases and the manufacture of the LD amplifier is facilitated. Further, the semiconductor laser and LD amplifier may be formed in the same structure, which is further simplified.
