英文摘要PURPOSE:To stabilize the gain by applying a low-frequency pilot signal to an electrode which is close to an input side together with a DC bias, and extracting and controlling the pilot signal component of an optical amplifier output to a constant value. CONSTITUTION:An input light signal 19a which is sent by an optical fiber 1a is coupled with the optical amplifier 20. Further, the small-amplitude, low-frequency pilot signal from an oscillator 2a and the DC current from a DC power source 2b are added by a driving circuit 2c and applied to the electrode 15a. Part of the light output 19b is fed back to a p-side electrode 15b through an optical branch 3, a photodetector 4, an amplifier 5, a rectifying circuit 6, a low-pass filter 7, a differential amplifier 8, and an optical amplifier driving circuit 9. This feedback circuit controls the driving current outputted by the circuit 9 so that the output of the amplifier 8 becomes zero, thereby controlling the gain of the amplifier 20 to a constant value.
