英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain the coupler which allows the easy control of a branching ratio and coupling efficiency by previously flattening the forming position of the optical coupler, thereby enhancing the uniformity of the working depth at the time of forming. CONSTITUTION:The wave front division in a lamination direction is executed by limiting the working front end of a slit 2 up to the active layer 7 part where the center of the boundary distribution in the layer direction exists. Since the slit 2 is formed in a flat part, the uniformity of the working depth in the horizontal direction of the slit 2 is, good and the wave front division in the layer direction is executed with the good accuracy over the entire part of the boundary distribution 12 in the cross direction. Then, the control of the ratio between the reflection component superposed on the section of the slit 2 in the boundary distribution 12 and the transmission component not superposed on the section of the slit 2, i.e., the branching ratio, is facilitated. The coupler which is stable in the branching ratio and coupling efficiency and has the high working accuracy is produced in this way.
