英文摘要PURPOSE:To provide a light source for optical communication or the like which is capable of controlling high output light over a wide frequency range in a stable manner or operating with a single wavelength over a wide optical output range in terms of a coupling mode type semiconductor laser. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser section 2, which operates at high output, is optically coupled with a semiconductor laser 4 which operates at a single wavelength with a resonator whose Q value is higher so as to control the optical coupling degree between the resonators of the both semiconductor laser sections. In this case, it is possible to use a diffraction grating-equipped, more preferably, a lambda/4 phase shift type distribution feedback semiconductor laser provided with a diffraction grating or a distribution feedback ring laser as the semiconductor laser section which operates at a single wavelength with the resonator whose Q value is higher. It is also possible to use a semiconductor laser having a long fabricated bellow type resonator as the semiconductor laser 2 which operates at high output.
