英文摘要In one embodiment, the semiconductor laser (1) is surface-mountable and comprises a semiconductor layer sequence (2) which contains a generating region (22), configured to generate laser radiation (L), between a p-side (p) and an n-side (n). Furthermore, the semiconductor laser comprises two contact faces (31, 32) for forming external electrical contact between the p-side (p) and the n-side (n). In this context, the generating region (22) is designed to be operated in a pulsed fashion with temporary current densities of at least 30 A/mm2. The contact faces (31, 32) are located on the same side of the semiconductor layer sequence (2), in a common plane, with the result that contact can be made with the semiconductor laser (1) without using a bonding wire.
