英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain plural optical output levels and to realize a low noise corresponding to the levels by controlling the amplitude of a high frequency current to be injected to a semiconductor laser independently from a bias current, and modulating amplitude or bias so as to obtain desired optical output by considering the current-output characteristic of the laser. CONSTITUTION:The output of a photodiode 2 for monitoring is monitored by arranging at the rear side of the semiconductor laser 1 that is a light source, and a modulation signal level-modulated corresponding to information from an input terminal 3 is inputted to a processing circuit 4. At such a case, an output signal from the circuit 4 is outputted to an amplifier 5, a high frequency voltage source 9, and a comparator 8, and the output of the amplifier 5 is applied on the laser 1 via an inductance circuit not shown in figure, and also, the output of the voltage source 9 is applied on the laser 1 via a coupling capacitor not shown in figure, and the output current of the diode 2 is supplied to the comparator 8 via a current-voltage converter 7 after its high frequency component being cut off with a low-pass filter 6, then, is compared with a signal from the circuit 4. Thus, automatic power control can be performed.
