英文摘要PURPOSE:To detect magnetization with a high sensitivity by disposing an objective magnetized medium and a reference magnetized film to a semiconductor quantum well laser to constitute an external resonance laser and detecting the direction of the magnetization by the oscillation and non-oscillation of the laser. CONSTITUTION:The current density to be implanted to the semiconductor quantum well laser 1 is set larger than the threshold current for the laser 1 to oscillate when the direction of the magnetization of the reference magnetized film 2 and the direction of the magnetization of the objective magnetized medium 3 are reverse. The magnetized medium 3 is rotated around its shaft of rotation while a prescribed spacing to an air floating slider 6 is maintained and the the air floating slider 6 is swept relative to the magnetized medium 3, then if the direction of the magnetization of the magnetized medium 3 is reverse from the direction of the magnetization of the reference magnetized film 2, the laser 1 oscillates. The direction of the magnetization of the magnetized medium 3 is, therefore, detected with the high sensitivity if the oscillation and non-oscillation of the laser 1 are detected by a photodetector 5.
