英文摘要PURPOSE:To achieve two-dimensional integration as a face light-emitting element seemingly regardless of an end face light-emitting type by forming an activation layer on a surface which is different from a recessed part or a main surface of a semiconductor substrate which is provided on the main surface of the semiconductor substrate previously. CONSTITUTION:A recessed part 110 is provided on a first conductive type semiconductor crystal 1 constituting a semiconductor substrate and an activation layer 3 and a second conductive type semiconductor crystal 2 which become a light-emitting layer are provided within the inside. In this structure, an edge part 3a of the activation layer 3 is exposed on a main surface 100 of the substrate, thus enabling light to be taken out in a direction which is vertical to the main surface of the substrate 100 as in a face light-emitting type light- emitting element regardless of an end face light-emitting type element. Also, in this structure, the recessed part 110 which is provided on a semiconductor substrate 4 is in semi-spherical shape so that carriers and light are propagated uniformly along the activation layer 3, thus obtaining a uniform emission of light.
