英文摘要PURPOSE:To enhance mutual optical coupling efficiency by connecting optical lines which are different in kind from each other via a semiconductor laser amplifier element to each other. CONSTITUTION:The optical lines 11, 12 and the semiconductor laser amplifier element 13 are optical connected to each other via lenses 14, 15. The semiconductor laser amplifier element 13 is maintained in the state just before oscillation by injecting the DC current slightly smaller than the threshold current to the element 13. The semiconductor laser amplifier element in the state just before oscillation is put into the oscillation state by the energy possessed by a light signal when the light signal is made incident from the optical line on a transmission side to the semiconductor laser amplifier element in light transmission. The light signal transmitted in the semiconductor laser amplifier element is then amplified and the amplified signal is made incident to the optical line on a light receiving side from the semiconductor laser amplifier element. The coupling efficiency between the different optical lines is thereby enhanced.
