英文摘要PURPOSE:To increase and stabilize the projection power of higher harmonics by devising the drive of a semiconductor laser newly. CONSTITUTION:A light wavelength converting element 27 consisting of a substrate where an optical waveguide 2 is formed and which has nonlinear optical effect, a semiconductor laser 21, and a power source 50 which drives the semiconductor laser 21 are provided. Then the semiconductor laser 21 is driven at >=500MHz high frequencies. Namely, the semiconductor 21 which generates a fundamental wave P1 is driven at high frequencies and put in pulse operation to improve the peak power of the fundamental wave P1 without increasing the means power of the fundamental wave P1 which is emitted. Consequently, the conversion efficiency of the light wavelength converting element 27 to higher harmonics wave is increased to improve the mean output of the higher harmonics.
