英文摘要PURPOSE:To provide an unexpensive heat sink having improved reliability that can efficiently dissipate heat generated by an optical semiconductor element and decrease the thermal resistance of the element, by coating the heat sink with a layer of a material having a high heat conductivity such as copper or silver. CONSTITUTION:An iron heat sink 11 is coated with copper 12. It may be coated, for example, by means of electrolytic plating or the like. The heat sink may be formed of iron or other materials having a low heat conductivity such as kovar or the like. Further, it may be coated with silver or the like in spite of copper. An optical semiconductor element 1 such as a semiconductor laser or the like is bonded on the heat sink 11 by means of a soldering material 3 such as In or AuSi. The thicker is the coating of a material with a high heat conductivity such as copper or cobalt, the lower thermal resistance it presents.
