英文摘要PURPOSE:To enable the processings of optical signals to run concurrently in parallel by a method wherein the edge face of a laser provided with an oblique reflective mirror is formed through a dry etching, input and output light rays are reflected, and light rays are made to be inputted into or outputted from the surface of a device. CONSTITUTION:An oblique reflective mirror is formed on the vertical edge face of a bistable semiconductor laser and near to it. The edge face of a laser is formed vertical to a current injection active region and a p-n junction plane, and the reflective mirror is formed near the edge face of the laser as tilted to the p-n junction by an angel of 40-60 degrees. Then, the input light and the output light of the laser are reflected by the oblique reflective mirror, whereby laser rays can be taken out in a direction vertical to the p-n junction. By this setup, many semiconductor lasers of this design can be integrated on the same substrate as a two-dimensional laser array, so that the processings of optical signals can be carried out concurrently in parallel.
