英文摘要PURPOSE:To projects a stable, high-output higher harmonic from a light wavelength converting element even if environmental temperature varies and the wavelength of a semiconductor laser varies as to the short-wavelength laser beam source which uses nonlinear optical effect. CONSTITUTION:The short-wavelength laser beam source consists of the light wavelength converting element which has a polarization inverting layer 3 and an optical waveguide 2 formed on an LiTaO3 substrate 1, the semiconductor laser 20 and solid laser crystal 2 The solid laser crystal is excited with the light P1 emitted by the semiconductor laser and the generated fundamental wave P2 is made incident on the optical waveguide. The fundamental wave P2 of the solid laser is converted into the higher harmonic P3 in the optical waveguide 2 which has periodic polarization inverting structure.
