英文摘要PURPOSE:To couple optically a semiconductor laser and an optical waveguide efficiently and stably by joining the semiconductor laser and an optical circuit into one body and impressing a voltage to a piezoelectric element to contract and expand the piezoelectric element and generating slide deformation. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser 4 is fixed to the first holding part 2, and a piezoelectric element 5 is put on the second holding part 3, and an optical circuit board 7 where an optical waveguide 6 is formed on the surface is held in the piezoelectric element 5. The piezoelectric element 5 is polarized in the normal direction of the surface of the second holding part 3 by providing electrodes 8. When voltages are impressed to electrodes 8 and 10, the structure indicated by solid lines is changed to the structure indicated by broken lines. When the voltage is impressed to electrodes 10, slide deformation is generated, and therefore, the relative position of the optical waveguide 6 to the semiconductor laser 4 is changed right or left to attain efficient optical coupling.
