| 英文摘要 | An optical modulator includes two cladding layers (5-1, 5-2) of different conductivity, a light absorption layer (3) formed between the cladding layers for propagating incident light and an optical waveguide layer (20-1, 20-2) formed between the cladding layers and optically connected to the light absorption layer, for propagating the light. The light absorption layer comprises an electroabsorbent material whose refractive index varies in response to a voltage applied between the cladding layers. The optical waveguide layer serves to compensate for the change in refractive index of the light absorption layer by having its refractive index vary in opposition to that of the light absorption layer, which results in a reduction of the chirping quantity of the modulator.; There is also described an optical device comprising a waveguide on which is formed a laser diode, an optical modulator and an insulating layer for electrically isolating the diode from the modulator. |
