英文摘要PURPOSE:To automate phase matching with high efficiency by forming a group II-VI compd. semiconductor consisting of a multiplex quantum well structure on a substrate consisting of a specified alloy. CONSTITUTION:An optical waveguide layer 12 is formed on a CaF2, SrF2, or (Ca,Sr)F2 substrate 11 from a group II-VI compd. semiconductor having a multiplex quantum well structure. The optical waveguide layer 12 is formed to a stripe with a ZnSO0.2Se0.8 single crystal thin film, and confines lateral light by its loaded structure. Since the substrate 11 is transparent for double higher harmonic light, phase matching of fundamental wave with double higher harmonic light generated by a nonlinear optical effect is possible utilizing Cherenkov radiation. As a result, the phase matching is facilitated automatically without requiring any precise temp. control.
