英文摘要PURPOSE:To increase the speed of a computer by unifying an electric circuit, a photoelectric circuit and an optical waveguide onto a compound semiconductor substrate, converting a signal inputted from the outside in a photoelectric manner between the electric circuit and the photoelectric circuit and outputting the signal to the outside again. CONSTITUTION:Signals emitted from a microprocessor MPU1 are inputted to a multiplexor 6 through input terminals 5, parallel signals are converted in series and a semiconductor laser 7 is driven, and laser beams corresponding to series signals are projected. Laser beams are projected to the end section of an optical fiber 9 from another end of an optical waveguide 8, and propagated. The multiplexor 6, the semiconductor laser 7 and the optical waveguide 8 are unified and constituted on a compound semiconductor substrate in the system, and incorporated into a socket 10, an input section thereof has pins and an output section thereof has an optical waveguide terminal. Accordingly, the speed of a computer can be increased.
