英文摘要PURPOSE:To improve the noise characteristic by irradiating a radiated light from a semiconductor laser light source selected to a single wavelength and oscillated in the single axial mode to a recording medium, detecting the reflected light and feeding back a prescribed luminous amount of light to the light source. CONSTITUTION:As a semiconductor laser 1, a distribution feedback laser provided with a periodic structure 12 having a period being one over an integral number of the oscillated wavelength close to a laser active layer 11 is used and the laser is oscillated in the single axis mode even under the presence of return light. The irradiated light of the laser 1 is formed into a collimate light by the lens 2 and collected to the recording medium 6 as a spot through a polarized light beam splitter 3 and a 1/4 wavelength plate 4. The reflected light from the medium 6 is reflected by the splitter 3 through a lens 5 and a wavelength plate 4 and made incident to a detector 7. The return light amount to the laser 1 is set to 0.5% by the angle adjustment of the wavelength plate 4. Thus, the optical pickup device excellent in noise characteristic is obtained.
