英文摘要PURPOSE:To make it possible to control stably a semiconductor laser without deteriorating characteristics, by providing a protection circuit which prohibits a timing signal when the output signal of a photo-detector is less than or equal to a specified value, and an initial value set circuit which sets sample mode after a specified time when the reset signal of a circuit system is generated. CONSTITUTION:A photo-diode 2 generates a current proportional to the light output of a semiconductor laser 1, and an error amplifier 4 amplifies the error against a reference voltage Vref. This value is subjected to sample-hold by a timing signal. The driving current of the semicondnctor laser 1 is stabilized as a value corresponding with the reference voltage Vref and the light output of the semiconductor laser 1 is controlled so as to be constant. Further the semiconductor laser 1 is subjected to on/off operation by a modulation signal. When the semiconductor laser 1 is not in the burning state, sampling is prohibited, and an excess current does not flow through the semiconductor laser 1, so that the deterioration of the semiconductor laser 1 can be prevented. The initial value set circuit 10 generates timing signal after a specified time when the reset signal of a circuit system is generated, and sets a sample hold circuit 5 in a state of sample mode through an OR circuit.
